Electronic Music Australia ep.9 aired 2 May2022
Under the Belt of Venus, that fabulous pink hue that the sky takes on at sunset here on the beautiful Gold Coast, we gathered. The sand was reasonably firm after recent rains and dance floor ready, the ocean, was being all, you know, ocean-y and stuff, the white bodies of seagulls flying overhead reflecting the lights from the stage making them appear like illuminecent blue birbs of the future, or from outer space even. Spacegulls if you will. The sound of music filled the air, bodies made exuberant dance moves in time with the beat and sometimes not in time, but that's cool too.
*Cue Flashback * It's last week, I find myself double booked on the weekend with not one but two amazing events to go to on Saturday. And I'm thinking how good is it to have too many things to go to again? You know, since the whole spicy cough saga saga shut things down (hopefully it won't shut things down again).
Feeling happy to see so many events back inspired me to make this week's episode of EMA, it's something of a celebration of things 'getting back to normal' through a nod to some of the events that have occurred on the Gold Coast in the past couple of weeks. The events include Golden Shores festival, Minstry of Sound Classical in The Park, Club Social, Recall ft. romance, and Lo'99... Each track is either produced, remixed or features Aussie artists that performed at these events and others.
You can also listen on SoundCloud, Mixcloud or YouTube (I have had some issues with YouTube so I am steering away from this platform)
A couple of notable mentions this week. I would like to introduce you to romance - and I'm not talking about going out for a posh dinner (although would it kill you to make a little effort every now and again?) ...romance is a project of Brisbane's Cameron Lee. He describes each song as its own "microcosm of intelligent techno, RnB and hip hop fusions". His track 'Angels' is a tastefully executed remix of Destiny's Child's 'Independent Women, Pt. 1'. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
The second one is The Damo Cox & Harxld Remix of Flume's 'Rushing Back' featuring Golden Shores artist Vera Blue. This track was remixed for an assignment during the pair's time studying at SAE. They both created a mix using the same sounds then combined the best bits, fusing their two very different styles together. A great adaptation indeed.

I hope you dance your pants off to this week's episode of EMA, it was another really fun episode to make. By the way, the original title of this blog post was "Golden Showers" because I kept forgetting the name "Golden Shores", and "Golden Showers" became like a weird mnemonic or something. Sorry Golden Shores.
The next episode of Electronic Music Australia airs on 105.7 Radio Metro on Monday, May 9 at 3 am AEST. You can listen to this from wherever you are in the world, so get amongst it! All past episodes, including episode 9 are on SoundCloud, Mixcloud and YouTube. Be sure to follow the EMA Spotify playlist too so you can listen to your favourite Aussie artists and songs all the time.
