In a time when they’re here one minute and gone the next, it’s quite an achievement for an electronic music event to be celebrating its 7th year running. For that event to also actively support the local community with over $350,000 dollars in fundraising to date for local charities is nothing short of remarkable.
There must be something in the Northern Rivers water, because within its green valleys, lush rainforests and perfect beaches there's a small but thriving electronic music scene. Cunning Stunts may well be at the forefront of this scene, with their monthly event Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink. With the tagline 'Party with a conscience', Cunning Stunts put the FUN back into fundraising, having donated over $364,000 to 31 Northern Rivers based grassroots charities since their inception in December 2015.
Some things have changed since back in 2015, when it was an all vinyl and volunteer run event, but the magic of those early days remains. “Magical vibes occur at every party”, says Laura Peck, one of the four creators of the event. “Organisation, music curation and set times, the purpose and most importantly, the guests who support our purpose are the sum of all parts that make the whole”, explains Peck. “Everybody who attends leaves their stuff behind them and enters warm, friendly and happy to be there”.
This Saturday, December 3rd, will be Cunning Stunts 59th event at the Billinudgel Hotel and with so many people doing it tough, they’re ramping up their efforts. All of the online raffle ticket sales and 50% of the profits from the event will be donated to Tweed based charity You Have A Friend, who provide much needed support to homeless, marginalised people and single parents in need, just in time for the holiday season.
This weekend, resident DJ's Dale Stephen and Lord Sut are joined by Stephen Allkins, and 'The Ladies of Nudge' Miss L (Laura Peck) and Lady S (Sarah Sutton) for an evening of House, Disco, Funk, Balearic and “feel good music for your soul and feet” explains Peck. “Everybody is welcome to be who they are and look/dress how they want to express themselves, whether you’re 18 or 80". There will also be merch available on the day, and an online raffle with BIG prizes. If you can't attend the event and would like to support the cause and go in to the draw to win you can purchase raffle tickets online. The Nudge Nudge Wink Wink 7 Heaven celebration is sure to be an unforgettable night of great music and positive vibes all while supporting a great local charity.
