Few would argue against Kid Kenobi‘s legendary status in the Australian dance music scene, having been named ‘Australia’s favourite DJ’ for a record breaking number 3 years from 2003-2005. His recent work on the ‘Re-Funk Remixes’ EP was proof positive that after 20 plus years of doing his thing, he ain't slowing down, and if anything, he’s ramping things up. Further enforcing his position as an innovator and all-round party-starter Kid Kenobi is back with a scorching hot remix out today, of Italian DJ and Producer Cristian Fascelli’s latest offering, ‘Black & White’ released under Australian Independent record label Sorta Kinda Music along with a with a mid 00's electro house inspired remix by label owner and Producer Damo Cox.

Fascelli’s track has a groovy minimalist bounce with some grimy hip-hop infused lyrics and a cool melodic lead. It’s a signature sound in a style he’s become renowned for across Europe.

Kid Kenobi has performed a surgical grade remix on the Naples based producer’s track, and the cuts are deep, and clean. Kid Kenobi’s take on this track pushes forward with an electronic snare on the 2 and the 4 that resonate off into the future, noticeably more than the original track. Another standout element is the rolling 303’esque bassline with an endlessly sweeping filter that glues together some of the higher pads and distorted low-end oscillations for a nicely balanced ‘wall of electronic sound’ that’s easy to digest. The juxtaposition of the original track’s elements and Kenobi’s creative takes is a masterclass in what a remix should be, a track that can stand on its own two feet while tipping its hat to the original.

Well known for his ability to evolve ahead of the times, Kid Kenobi has amassed a catalogue of originals, collabs and remixes over his illustrious career. His first ever remix, of Green Velvet’s ‘La La Land’ was award winning. ‘The Bump’, with another Australian heavy-weight Hook n Sling (Anthony Maniscalco) was ARIA nominated. All in all, the global breakbeat juggernaut has produced over 80 remixes for some of the world’s biggest names in dance, pop, and rock.

Soaked in well produced synthy bleeps with a basement feel, this remix is an ode to both Fascelli’s unique original styles and the rich breakbeat history that is Kid Kenobi and is well worth the add to all of your playlists.
