Let's Get Physical!

Updated: May 30, 2022

Electronic Music Australia ep.5 aired 3 April 2022

On a sunny Summer afternoon in January, as a I lazily cycled home by the beach from a lovely late lunch, a mishap occured which resulted in a torn ligament in my knee (I fell off my bike). We're not here to debate whether margaritas had anything to do with this incident! This catastrophic event has meant that I have not only been able to partake in my favourite weekend activity - dancing, but has also severely limited my ability to partake in my favourite weekday activity - exercise!

Perhaps that is why as I put together the music for this week's episode of EMA, I kept thinking about it being a perfect soundtrack for a great workout session.

If you're the sort of person who is now considering the distinct possibility that I am a psychopath for obsessing over the opportunity to do an hour long workout, try not to let that disuade you from listening to this week's episode, because it's a cracker!

We warm up with 'Real Vibes' from Sekond Skin which is the side project of absolute legend of the Aussie electronic music scene Kid Kenobi aka Jesse Desenberg. I love this project, it really showcases Jesse's evolution as an artist, blending different genres into a gorgeous musical journey. Byron Bay local Taya followed with his smooth and Summery 2021 release 'Reakt'.

Properly warmed up, and the the aerobic workout in full swing, Perfect Disarray's Order of Chaos delivered psy trancy goodness. Out of Brisbane, Perfect Disarray is a progressive/psytrance artist who blends a broad range of musical tastes into the realms of psychadelic music.

Financial banker by day, DJ/Producer at night Joey Day's 'Everything You Need' was the last of the energized portion of the hour before a delightful cool down with 'Highways' by The Saftey Word. The Melbourne based synth-pop duo revisited their debut 2019 LP to create instrumental reworks of the album, and it's truly a powerful, atmospheric journey and well worth a listen.

If you haven't already, it's probably time to do a few stretches...
