Review: The Aston Shuffle 'Tori Amos -Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix)'

The Aston Shuffle's remix of "Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin Mix)' might be a mouthful. Still, it's a dope blend of energetic, sexy modern tech-house with old-school house vibes, featuring powerful drums, bass and Tori Amos' incredible vocals that sent me to Lalaland and asking for more.

DJ and producer, Vance Musgrove AKA The Aston Shuffle hails from Canberra. When one thinks of Canberra vivid images of politics, suits, wide streets, vast open roads with valleys, wineries and bone-chilling winters come to mind. However, The Aston Shuffle wakes up a playful energy in me and speaks to the spirit of my soul with lively sounds that feel as refreshing as springtime and the warmth of the sun. It’s a vibe.

His remix is deep and powerful, infused with old-school house vibes and mesmerising vocals from 'Professional Widow'. Written and sung by Tori Amos, the original track was released in 1996 on her album 'Boys for Pele'. It was famously remixed by Armand Van Helden in 'Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix' which has amassed over 21 million plays on Spotify compared with the original which has just over 2 million. Now, that's how you remix! So, The Aston Shuffle has effectively remixed a remix, giving Armand Van Helden's legendary track a modern pumping kick and bassline that has rocket blasted this classic right into 2023. This remix has me nodding like a pigeon gobbling down seeds and hungry for more. 'Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix)' combines modern tech-house elements with alluring, seductive and sublime sounds that can’t help but make me shake my body with that fat groovy beat. Hell yeah! This remix pays homage to Armand Van Helden's masterpeice and true to the quality of production that The Aston Shuffle is known for, this one is a winner!

Funnily enough, I listened to this track along with the rest of The Aston Shuffle's yet to be released 'Edit Menu' which inculdes The Aston Shuffle edits of Jai Paul's 'Str8 Outta Mumbai', and Brandy's sexy 2012 hit 'Slower' (release date TBA) whilst enduring a particularly painful rib tattoo session. The good vibes in these edits were a welcome distraction - thanks The Aston Shuffle, you took me to another place away from the pain!

I can only imagine the electrifying atmosphere the Aston Shuffles 'Tori Amos - Professional Widow' (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix') will create this summer, introducing a new generation to Tori Amos and her incredibly powerful vocals and simultaneoulsy satisfying Millenials for whom Tori Amos formed part of their teenage soundtrack. Best of all, this release is being offered as a free download!

Lots of love for The Aston Shuffle's Tori Amos - 'Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix)', and I’m sure you’ll agree.
