When Negative is a Positive

Electronic Music Australia ep.18 aired 04 July 2022

Argh! Another weekend lost to the spicy cough and my FOMO levels are peaking, and I apologise that my voice is still very snuffly sounding but some good news is that I'm finally testing "negative" to the 'rona. There have been a couple of big things keeping me going during this time, I'm preparing for a very exciting interview next week with a massive Aussie artist, and I'm heading overseas to chase The Prodigy again very soon, so planning all things travel related.

There's some fantastic music on this week's episode of Electronic Music Australia, including 'The Seed' from Sky Eater. I really love the live band / electronic combo, and now that I think of it I suppose that makes perfect sense given my obsession with The Prodigy. I also have a solid obsession for Paul Kalkbrenner who does live production, but we'll save that for another day. Another band, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard also feature this week with Ciel’s Fluttering Dub remix of their track 'Blue Morpho'.

Here's a snippet of Sky Eater doing their thing;

Celebrating one year since it's release, is my good friend Damo Cox and GrooveJak's 2021 tune 'Acid Kiss'. This one peaked at 17 in the ARIA Club Charts which was a very nice achievement for the Gold Coast duo. Meanwhile, I'm still patiently waiting for a release date for GrooveJak's 'Deep Down' which featured on episode 6 of EMA.

The show opened this week with the new one from Sydney's Golden Features called ‘Touch’. It features the vocals of Melbourne's Rromarin and I really liked the way they described the track as being about that time after a big night out, chilling back at a friends house, "with your head in someone's lap", I guess just feeling really connected with your rave companions and waiting for the sun to come up. So if you dig that vibe like I did, it really sets the scene for the track.

There's a really nice remix of Milky Chance's 'Synchronize' from Perth based Ben Renna. He's got a new track out too, 'Hearts on Fire' - do you think I should give it a spin on next week's show? Speaking of next week's show, all going to plan, I will be interviewing a very special guest and to say I'm excited is an understatement! You'll just have to tune in to find out who it is!

Another big thank you to everyone who has submitted their music for play or requested a song on the show. The listener's pick this week was 'Tombstone' from Melbourne's Midnight Juggernauts. It got me wondering what happened to the band who haven't released anything since around 2014. Confusingly, their Facebook page says "Midnight Juggernaughts have now officially become a new hybrid vitality company..." so make of that what you will. Thanks heaps to CJ for requesting that track and sending me down that rabbit hole!

Don't forget to keep those music submissions flowing in, either via the contact page (preferred for artists submitting tracks) or the EMA socials.

The next episode of Electronic Music Australia airs on 105.7 Radio Metro on Monday, July11 at 3 am AEST. You can listen to EMA episode 18 on Mixcloud and YouTube or check out the Spotify playlist below.

Is it a war zone?

Is it a freak show?

Is it a terror dome?

Is it a radio?
